Summer Time /Picnic Time is here! On June 20 (Father's Day), the Texas State Society’s Annual Picnic will take place at Smokey Glen Farm, 16407 Riffleford Rd., Gaithersburg, MD (directions can be found at www.smokeyglenfarm.com). Picnic will be from 11:30am - 5:30pm, with the softball tournament starting at 9:00am.*
This year’s Picnic Co-Chairs, Sarith Ruiz and Chelsea Brown, are planning a full-filled Sunday for all D.C. area Texas expatriates to enjoy. Rain or shine, the Society will serve Smokey Glen’s renowned barbeque - including chicken, ribs, and brisket - followed by delicious apple pie and the perennial favorite, BLUE BELL ICE CREAM. Plan to sample the hot dogs, snow-cones and cotton candy!
Smokey Glen Farm will be transformed into a friend-filled Texas backyard. You can fill the afternoon with a round of bingo or a twirl around the dance floor. The Wil Gravatt Band and surprise guests will be playing some of the national music of Texas and keeping our toes tapping for the annual dance contest.All the usual activities are scheduled — softball tournament (beginning at 9 am), moon bounce, zooming down the zip-line, putt-putt golf and the rock wall. You can test your skills in the volleyball tournament, long drive golf and 42 tournaments. Be sure to register with the volunteers at the Registration Table as you enter the picnic.
BEST NEWS OF ALL - ticket prices are the same as last year — $15 (in advance) or $20 at the gate for current dues-paid TSSmembers (13 years and older); while nonmembers (13 years and older) will be charged $30 (flat rate). All children, ages 6 through 12, will gain entry for $10 each (flat rate), while any younger will be admitted free of charge. The admission price includes all you can eat and drink, as long as supplies last. Deadline for advance purchase price is 5:00 pm, Friday, June 18.
Note: Memberships may be renewed at the Picnic. Only current 2010 dues-paid TSS members will be eligible for door prizes. No tickets will be mailed in advance - there will be a guest list at the gate.

Plan to buy your tickets soon at www.texasstatesociety.org (right side column under Upcoming Events.) Updates to the TSS online ticket purchase option now allow you to purchase all three types of tickets from one screen. Scroll down to the bottom of the event and Click on Purchase Tickets Now. Next page - scroll down to the bottom. If you are a current TSS member, enter your email address and password to allow purchase. If a non TSS member, you can click on that option. If you prefer, call the TSS office at 301-809-8989 to purchase your tickets.
